This section will cover: The effects of electric shock on the human body and reference to potential causes such as incorrect conductor size, inadequate protective devices and mechanical damage. Arcing which will include reference to potential causes such as loose connections and unintentional short circuits. Explosion such as escaped battery hydrogen gas and poor connections. |
Legislation and guidance |
Guidance of current Legislation, regulation and standards which include Health and Safety At Work Act 1974 (HASWA) and Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR) |
Primary Electrical hazards on Boats |
This section covers the importance of the correct polarity, the use of Residual Current Device (RCD) and guidance for completing a risk assessment |
Safe Isolation Procedure |
An overview of the Safe Isolation Procedure is presented during the E-Learning course and a flow diagram is available to print for your use, further training will also be provided at the training event |

BSS – Part 3 Electrical Systems |
The morning of the one day training event will underpin your knowledge and understanding in the context of the current Part 3 Boat Safety Scheme Examination Checking Procedures |
Safe Isolation Procedure |
The new Safe Isolation Procedure will feature in the training including demonstration of the test rig before your assessment. |
Safe Isolation Procedure Assessment |
We intend to provide two rigs for assessments with two assessors this will speed up this section of the one day event. The course tutor will endeavour to give all delegates feedback on their assessments on the day. |

Afternoon Seminar |
BSS Manager Presentation |
In the afternoon and whilst the assessments are going on, the BSS Manager will conduct a seminar event aimed at imparting important information about planned changes to the role of BSS examiners as well as one or two technical or IT matters. |
